Rent Increase & Pool Access
I have lived in my apartment for 1 year, the rent is $1525.00 and they are increasing the rent to $1600.00 to renew my lease for 6 months. If I choose not to renew my lease they will increase the rent to $1665.00 on a month to month basis. My income has not gone up and I cannot afford this and I cannot move because I don’t have the money to do so. I have lived at these apartments for 5 years in 3 other apartments. My question is, Can they increase my rent this much? Also I have asked them for 3 years to install a pool chair to access the pool. I am a paraplegic and can only use this to access the pool. They have refused to do this so I can not use all 3 pools on the property! I think that they have to install this don’t they? Please let me know your answer as soon as possible because I must decide what to do before July 20. Thank you.

The rent increase sounds lawful so long as there exist no rent control ordinance on your area. As far as pool access you might have a case under the American with Disabilities Act. If you are located in Southern California call me for a free telephone consultation at 818-342-8020×1
