I sold a car 5 years ago when I lived in Anchorage Alaska for $50 just to get rid of it by just signing the title over without getting a bill of sale.

I now live in Virginia(I’m in the Army) and just got a notice from the Anchorage PD that I have several tickets for expired registration on this car some of which have been sent to collections. I don’t have any of the information about the seller to contact him.

What can I do about this? I understand I’ll be responsible for paying the tickets but what can I do about the car still being on the streets in my name from 8,000 miles away?

  1. You could write a letter to the Alaska Motor Vehicle Department explaining that you are no longer the owner of this vehicle and that any registration for the vehicle in your name should be canceled. And, if you can send a copy of the title with your signature on the back conveying title to the buyer, all the better.
