Getting a security deposit back
Two weeks ago, I put down a $200 security deposit for an apartment. The landlord could not immediately tell me when I could move in, so I did not sign a lease. In the meantime, I was offered a lower rent by my current landlord, which I accepted. I asked the apartment manager for the deposit in person today, but they told me they could not refund it since they had lost income from taking the apartment off the market for me. Do I have any legal right to recover my security deposit since I never signed a rental agreement with the new apartment and never moved in?

Quit Claim filed to 3rd party before 1st filed
I signed a Quit Claim Deed about 7 years ago. It was the last page of a lease option to buy agreement which I thought I was signing. It was notorized by someone not there at the time. I was advised by no realty agents. The people I signed the deal with signed a quit claim to 3rd party about 2 yrs later. About 2 Yrs after that they filed the Quit claim I signed. Can I get my house back? Or do I have a leg to stand on to fight for part of the equity? I was a 1st time home buyer and they were experienced. I was never notified about either filing.

Abuse of Power of Attorney
My dad died 4 months ago, mom is incomtant. brother has durable power of attorney, has put mom in assisted living and has got himself a fancy apartment, all though he has no job. He says he has to take care of my mom, assisted living is $4,500 a month, he is there 20 minutes a day. How do we know if he is using her money to live on, he keeps everything scret. My mom of course isn’t able to understand and do not really want to upset her. He wants no one to know what dr she goes to or what dr says. Is there anything at all we can do, to know what is going on or to protect my mom? For example phone bill was $700, mom can’t hear to use phone, he paid $5 to her, told her it was his potion of calls and wrote a check for $700 which he said was her potion. thank you.

Does Durable Power of Attorney stay in effect after death ?

Does Durable Power of Attorney stay in effect after death ?
My wife and I are/were DPOA for a lady who just passed away. We asked her attorney if we should pay her final expenses from her checking account as we have been doing for almost 2 years. He said to carry on as usual and to pay her bills as if she were still living. We did so and I notified the bank that she had passed on so they would need to send her retirement back when it was direct deposited. Then today we get a notice in the mail from her & our bank (one & the same)that her account is frozen & they are going to return the check we wrote to Wal-Mart to buy $22.00 worth of items to bury her with. Incedentally, we are her sole heirs. She only has $200 in the bank. It was our understanding that the Durable Power of Attorney carries on even after death. Her attorney told us to write the checks that we did & now the bank tells us we had no right to do so. I hope I have given enough information.

Thanks in advance.
