increasing rent Can the landlord raise rents because of ”inflation”?

increasing rent
Can the landlord raise rents because of ”inflation”? After 3 months in the month to month property, the landlord leaves a note rents are to be increased $100 (10%). Once we called him he says it’s due to inflation. What would prevent him from doing it 1 – 12 months from now for no better reason than inflation?

  1. Re: increasing rent
If you want to be protected from rent increases, sign a lease that binds BOTH parties. Otherwise, it is the landlord’s property and they can generally charge whatever rent they can get in the market, as long as they comply with notice provisions. Conversely, you are free to move.
