Health Care Proxy
Have been asked to sign a health care proxy for my mother who has been determined to be incapable of making her own decisions. She does not have any prior living will or surogate designated. If I sign, will this hold me legally responsible for all of her financial obligations or is this strictly for medical care? Thank you for your assistance.

  1. Re: Health Care Proxy
If the form is truly a proxy that is for making health care decisions not for financial liability. However if she does not know what she is signing the form will be invalid.

  2. Re: Health Care Proxy
Health Care Proxies are for health care decisions only. If your mother is incapacitated and it is not expected that she will recover, you can petition for guardianship if you need to handle her financial affairs as well.
