I have a month to month lease, I moved into this home October 2000, can my landlord raise my rent? Where can I find the, truth in renting in Florida/laws.

    The answer to your question is, Yes. The good thing about a month-to-month tenancy is that either party (the landlord or the tenant) may cancel the lease with short notice, which gives each party the flexibility not afforded with a written lease for an extended period of time. The bad thing about month-to-month leases is that you have no real protection from being terminated as a tenant nor any predictability concerning future rental rates. Review Chapter 83 of the Florida Statutes, which will provide you with the law on residential tenancies. If you want a stronger commitment and no surprises for a certain period of time, then enter into a written lease agreement for the certain time period you need. Seek the advice of counsel and good luck.
