I live in Queens and I never signed a lease or any other rental agreement. I am month to month do I still need to give the landlord a 30 day notice in writing of my departure?

Yes. The notice provision goes both ways. You have the obligation to give the Landlord 1 month notice. I would hand it to the Landlord in person.
