Notice to quit/evict
I am being evicted from my apt without giving any reasons from my landlord. For no reasons at all. My landlord said ”just because”. I have 30 days to vacate the place. I tried to talk to him but he would not get back to me. what are my options…I did not commit anything that provoke the rules and regulations as a tenants. Never had any problem with my landlord. I paid my rent on time and keep myself to my own business. Never broke anything or being loud or obnoxious. Please advise what to do..I have no place to go and I am really stressed over this situation.

You don’t state where you are from. Many municipalities have rent stabilization laws that prevent such arbitrary evictions. Please check those out. Also, if you’ve lived there more than a year, the landlord has to give you 60 days’ notice under the Civil Code.

You don’t specify if you have a lease or if you are on a month-to-month basis. If you are on a month-to-month lease, the landlord can generally evict on 30-days notice unless (1) you have lived in the unit more than one year and then you get 60-days notice; or (2) a local ordinance applies such as rent control or a prohibition against arbitrary evictions.

Landlord/tenant can vary by jurisdiction, so you do need to consult a local attorney. Some courts or legal aid societies offer free clinics for low income individual with facing an eviction that might be able to help you on a low-fee or no-fee basis.
