Revocation of Durable Power of Attorney
I was recently assigned Durable Power of Attorney for my Mother. My understanding is that this not only gives me the authority to manage her finances, but also the responsibility to pay her obligations if she cannot. She has continually disregarded my advice and will likely, at some point in the future, be unable to meet her financial obligations. I have sibling(s) who feel that I am trying to ”cut them out”, so I have hesitated to take complete control of her finances. My question is…can I, as the agent, have the DPOA revoked or must the revocation be initiated by my mother, the principle?

Without reading the Durable Power of Attorney I cannot say with certainty what rights and responsibilities it has placed with you. I will say that you may decline the powers given; that process does not need to begin with your mother. Still, are you sure it is in your mother’s best interests to have no one in control? I suggest you speak with your brothers/ sisters about the issues your are facing and work togeather. If the family is working with each other then there is less chance one family member will feel they are being “cut-out.”
