If I bought and paid for the horse, he is mine, no?
I bought a registered Quarterhorse in Arkansas. I paid for him and have the canceled check and bill of sale. He has been living with me for several years. My daughter got some papers from the American Quarterhorse Association. She did not buy the horse, and I have been keeping him on my farm and giving him board, vet care, hoof care, and TLC. All of a sudden my daughter thinks she can take my horse away from me. She has never cared for this horse or paid any of his upkeep. He is my horse and I would like to prove that.

Where is the horse now (whose property and in what state)? What involvement has your daughter had with the horse over the past few years?

I would write the Association, sending copies of the check and bill of sale, and ask how the horse could be registered to someone who does not own it. I would request whatever documentation was issued to your daughter be negated and a correct registration be issued to you. I would also inquire how they issued any documentation without verifying proof of ownership and to provide you with a copy.
