Water and sewer charge for my apartment
I live in apartment with anual lease agreement. And this lease expires by this month and so I just received a lease renewal notice from rental office.
The suprise was that the letter says ”Please make a special note that effective with your new lease agreement, you will be responsible for water and sewer charges for your apartment. This will be billed directly to you each month from National Water & Power. You do not need to contact them to set up an account, this will be done for you through our office.” I will appreciate some information about it.

You have in effect been notified that your rent is being increased, i.e. by the average amount of the water and sewer charge. Unless there is rent control in your community, there isn’t much you can do about it except negotiate or move out. You should inquire either of the management or the utility company, or both, about how much the monthly charges will be.

I do not know of any law or regulation requiring individual metering of water to apartments within a complex. You might inquire whether water is metered or whether you pay a flat rate without regard to amount consumed.
